Williamsburg Phoenix -- Left Mirror

26 x 59"
This pair of Chippendale looking glasses were reproduced from originals in the Colonial Williamsburg collection. Of a style popular in the mid 18th Century, they were known as a "pier glass" and would have been hung in the architectural spaces on either side of a window or door then called the "pier." The frame's elaborate pierced work, ruffled C scrolls, acanthus leaf festoons and gilded finish reflect classic Rococo style at its best. A fanciful and boldly asymmetrical phoenix poised for flight crowns each looking glass. An ancient Egyptian symbol of resurrection, the mythical phoenix rises on spread wings from the fire and ashes of a lost civilization. Finished in antique gold leaf. A shaped beveled mirror is optional. CARVERS' GUILD licensee to COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG.
