Newport Love Birds Mirror

55 x 44"
Found in Mrs. Berwind's powder room, Newport Love Birds was carved about 1898 in the Paris Studios of Jules Allard for Edward J. Berwind's famous mansion, "The Elms." A faithful reproduction of the Mid 18th Cenury Louis XVI style, this intricately carved spandrel combines the romantic design elements of the French Neo-classic. Swagged floral garlands joined by a wrinkled bow form a protective wreath for a pair of love doves. Offset corners are centered by an acanthus boss and filled with pierced carvings of laurel sprays. The rim and oval surround of the beveled mirror plate are covered with laurel leaves and berries. A gesso-white finish is true to the original. Newport Lovebirds is also magnificent in our antique gold leaf finish. CARVERS' GUILD licensee to: THE PRESERVATION SOCIETY OF NEWPORT COUNTY.
