The Newport Harvest Wreath is an exact reproduction of one of the celestory window surrounds used in the grand dining room of The Breakers, the most opulent of the Newport Mansions. The Breakers Mansion was designed by the noted architect Richard Morris Hunt for Cornelius Vanderbilt "The Commodore" in about 1895. The Paris Studios of Jules Allard carved the window surrounds in the Florentine style popularized by the Della Robbia family during the Italian Renaissance of the 15th Century. The frame is deeply carved with fruits, nuts, and vegetables tied with ribbons and acanthus leaves. Similar frames were used on paintings by such masters as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Sandro Botticelli. CARVERS' GUILD licensee to: THE PRESERVATION SOCIETY OF NEWPORT COUNTY.
